AgriDataSpace: The Data Revolution for More Sustainable Agriculture

Agriculture is undergoing an unprecedented transformation. On one hand, there is the urgency of climate change; on the other, a rapidly evolving digital ecosystem that enables new forms of knowledge, forecasting, and decision-making.

In this context, the CEADS project has been launched as part of the European strategy for the development of data spaces, with the goal of implementing a Common European Agricultural Data Space. Its aim is to create a secure, trustworthy, and interoperable environment to facilitate data sharing across the European agri-food sector, improving economic, environmental, and social performance while adhering to high ethical standards.

Data, Climate, and Innovation: The Ecosystem Reshaping Agriculture

 

CEADS is also aligned with the vision of the Common European Agriculture Data Space, promoted by the European Commission and designed to facilitate the sharing of data from the primary sector among public institutions, businesses, and research centers.

In this context, it builds on the results of the AgriClima project, funded by the PNRR and coordinated by the Bruno Kessler Foundation, which brings this vision to life through an advanced cloud platform capable of integrating heterogeneous data—climate, weather, satellite, agricultural, and insurance data—while ensuring data sovereignty remains with the producers.

 

Data Interoperability: The Heart of Agricultural Innovation

 

Data interoperability is the cornerstone of the entire project. AgriClima has helped define standards, protocols, and models that enable different datasets to communicate with each other, ensuring security, quality, and governance. This experience will also be integrated into the CEADS project as a whole, whose Italian cluster is coordinated by the Bruno Kessler Foundation and involves, alongside Deda Next, the CREA (Council for Agricultural Research and Economics).

In this context, Artificial Intelligence plays a key role: it analyzes climate patterns, identifies risks, supports farmers in crop planning, and helps institutions develop more effective adaptation strategies.

Resource optimization and precision agricultureThe combination of weather data, sensors, and predictive models enables reduced water consumption and optimized agronomic interventions, increasing crop resilience.

More accurate insurance policies and transparent risk managementCertifiable data on weather events, yields, and soil conditions allows insurance companies to offer more precise parametric products and enables farmers to access compensation more easily.

Strategic support for policymakers and researchAccess to interoperable data accelerates agricultural research, supports the development of new resilient crop varieties, and improves the quality of public decision-making in climate adaptation policies.

The centrality of high-quality data in the evolution of digital agriculture

 

Deda Next brings its expertise in agricultural information systems and territorial data management. Its know-how in building cloud infrastructures, standardizing datasets, and defining governance models helps public administrations and operators unlock the value of their information assets. This capability, already applied in solutions such as the SIAP system of the Autonomous Province of Trento, becomes an accelerator for the development of the national and European AgriDataSpace.

Towards a European Data-Driven Agriculture Model

 

AgriDataSpace and the AgriClima project represent a paradigm shift: they bring agriculture into a dimension where data becomes a shared asset, an enabler of competitiveness, and an essential tool to address the climate crisis. If scaled across Europe, this vision can give rise to an open and collaborative ecosystem where innovation, sustainability, and resilience advance together.
